Unit Title: How do outside influences affect my place in this world?

Grade 10: 14 weeks

Area of Interaction: Health and Social Education

Significant Concept: Artists and designers are products of their environment.

 Lesson Content:

Week 1-Pencil sketching of outside views-teacher demo about composition and perspective and pencil use and intro. Renaissance and Pop art.

Week 2-Use of pencil to develop sketches of outside in colour and sections of work by pop artists. Study the modern icon.

Week 3-Art critique and reflection work. Use collage to develop outside image.

Week 4- Sketching of everyday objects that represent modern life. Brainstorm and develop ideas for a painting or computer generated image with the titlte: Me and My Environment. Essay on a renaissance artist.

Week 5- Draw prep sketch for final piece and colour-pastels or watercolour-teacher demo.

Week 6- Develop a final composition to show the concept. Explain the concept in writing.

Use preparation work to develop an idea for a painting/computer generated image.

Week 7- Colour mixing and practice tasks with paint-colour wheel. Make two prep pieces that show the use of colour to create mood.

Week 8- Drawing up for painting.

Week 9-Artist research on an artist that commented on his/her environment (social, economic, environmental issues etc.).Continue with drawing up for painting.

Week 10-Painting with acrylic paint-teacher demo and start.

Week 11-Painting.

Week 12-Painting.

Week 13- Reflection on work-peer critique and completion

Week 14- Reflection on completed tasks via student presentations of independent and group work.

 Lesson Content:

Week 1-Pencil sketching of objects in unusual settings-how does that object change the view? make you think and ask questions? Ribbon around a tree/chair hanging from a tree.Take photos.

Week 2-Research on Hirst, Whiteread and Koons-art critique and reflection. Contrast with henry Moore outside sculptures in harmony with their environment. Draw an example of their work.

Week 3- Life studies, looking at bodies and movement. Charcoal and white on black.

Week 4- Make a 3D figure with cardboard-must be climbing around the tree, painted white.

Week 5- Make a 3D figure with cardboard-must be climbing around the tree, painted white.

Week 6- Place figures in the tree, reflect and take photos of final piece and photos of children interacting with it.

Week 7- Photos used to develop an idea for a painting showing either ther piece or reaction to it or both.

Week 8- Drawing up for painting.
