There’s been a lot of exciting things going on in the ZIS MYP Arts program. The new kiln in the art room has been working like a charm and has already been used to fire work from Years 7-11. Some pictures are now posted on the Visual Art page. Student work will soon be added for your enjoyment.
In music, Years 7-9 have already completed their first units. Year 7 have learn some of the basic elements of music and enjoyed a wonderful series by the BBC called “How Music Works.” Years 7 & 8 have started to build their own homemade musical instruments and Year 9 has begun work on a creative time line that explores western music from Bach to Rock.
In our Performance groups, the band has been working hard on the piece for the Holiday Concert. Starting with the majority of students being brand new to an instrument, the kids have made remarkable progress and even though they most likely will sound like an elementary school band, its a great beginning! I’m very proud of them.
